Plant Systematics, Taxonomy & Evolution
My research aims to understand the evolutionary relationships of plants and the processes and mechanisms underlying their origin, geographic distribution, and diversification. I am particularly interested in phylogenetic approaches that use molecular data to infer evolutionary relationships and reconstruct the history of plant lineages.
By combining fieldwork and the study of biological collections, I also gather information on geographic distribution, morphological and cytological variation, and ecological attributes. These different sources of evidence are integrated to address key questions in plant evolution, systematics, and taxonomy, including species boundaries, patterns of diversification, and the historical processes that have shaped plant diversity.
My primary expertise is in Cactaceae, particularly the tribe Opuntieae. However, my research interests are not restricted to these groups, and I am also interested in exploring evolutionary questions across other plant lineages.
